This specialist teaching and research space is used for a range of tasks which vary from taking anthropometric measurements to investigating the effect of a sports drink on blood glucose.
The BodPod is an excellent service for sportsmen and women wishing to measure the effectiveness of their training regimes on reducing body fat and increasing lean mass.
It’s a non-intrusive, extremely rapid method of measuring body composition. Utilising a technique called air displacement plethysmography, the volume of air displaced by the body is measured and used to calculate body fat percentage. This method provides invaluable information for anyone wishing to monitor changes in their body composition for health and/or fitness related purposes.
The Human Performance Laboratory is our main research and consultancy lab within the Department of Human and Health Sciences. It contains a state-of-the-art treadmill, sophisticated cycle ergometers and gas analysis system used for measuring performance of athletes and the general public. The lab is available for health screening and sports testing on a consultancy basis, offering tests including blood cholesterol, blood pressure, lung function, VO2 max and lactate threshold.
